10 Reasons Why I Hate the Spring

March 7, 2010
  1. The ground is covered in puddles and mush from the foot of snow that melted overnight.
  2. Birds are going to come back soon.  I hate birds.
  3. Squirrels are going to show up at the park I take my dog to.  It will soon take me 25 minutes to take my dog out in the morning instead of 5 to 10.
  4. Everything gross that was buried under the snow is suddenly showing up again.
  5. Dan is a bubble boy and is allergic to things that are in bloom.  Now he’s going to sneeze everywhere… constantly.
  6. The homeless people are back.
  7. Prandtl won’t stop shedding.
  8. Lucy won’t stop shedding.
  9. Going to work every day is getting tougher and tougher every day since the weather is getting warmer.
  10. Now I have to actually work out if I want my beach bod in time for beach season.

Sigh.

I Really Shouldn’t Be Writing This Right Now.

February 27, 2010

I realize I have been seriously neglecting my blog lately, which I am kind of disappointed about. I’ve been working with my good friend Joel to get a new blog setup, which I am SUPER excited about. And right now I’m in Biloxi, Mississippi on my parents couch. I visited for the weekend and I am headed home tomorrow.

I wish I had something awesome to tell you. Like I won millions at the casino. I actually won $100 from a slot machine, but then I lost all of it. Ugh.

I have to get up in about 3 hours, so I should probably stop phone-typing my love letter here and get to sleep. Maybe I will write from the plane tomorrow.

Hugs, Kisses, & Rainbows,
Heather

LETS GO RED WINGS!

January 27, 2010

Unfortunately, I don’t have a lot of time to write up a post tonight.  You see, I GOT TICKETS TO SEE THE RED WINGS TONIGHT!!!

Excuse me, sorry for yelling at you through my capital letters, but I am just so excited!

I don’t watch sports on tv — it doesn’t hold my attention.  But it’s different when I’m there, listening to the crowd chanting, feeling the atmosphere created by the team and its fans, or listening to the drunk guy at the end of the aisle making an ass of himself.  You can’t really get that through a tv… yes, even if you have HD.  And hockey is by far my favorite.

So I got my Zetterberg jersey out of the closet, and I’m thrilled to wear it again.  I am in Minnesota though, so I don’t plan on wearing it to the bar before the game.  I actually said, “I am going to see the Red Wings tonight!” at work, and my coworkers corrected me.  They told me I am going to see The Wild, not the Red Wings and to remember where I am.  They’re right.  Oops.  My bad.

The best part is I got great seats.  Row 9, right on the floor, baby.  OH YEAH!  I’ll be sitting next to the hockey crazies, which I don’t really know if I am looking forward to.  Hopefully I don’t get heckled too much.  I’m sensitive, you know.

Lets go Red Wings!

new years resolutions?

December 31, 2009

Every year on January 1st I declare my new years resolutions to everyone around me.  “I want to exercise” or “I want to save a lot of money” is something that I always come up with, and typically I will throw a few more in there to show that I actually did put some thought into it.

On that very same year, once December 30th rolls around, I try to remember what my new years resolutions were and I typically cannot remember.  The timespan is simply too long for me to recall what I initially planned to do for the year let alone stay motivated to complete any of it.  New years resolutions for me are useless, forgotten, and lost throughout the year.

This year I plan on trying something new.  Monthly resolutions.  One month is short enough to keep me motivated and long enough for me to achieve something.  And lets not forget that after one month my chances of remembering what I set out to do in the first place are greatly increased.

I suppose that if I must have a new years resolution, it will be this:  make monthly resolutions.

midnight mumblings

November 23, 2009

I went to bed at about 10pm, but haven’t been able to fall asleep.  Maybe it’s my own fault for taking a 1 hour nap earlier today, but it could also be Dan’s fault because he decided to go to bed the same time I did despite being wide awake and so I was bothered by his tossing and turning.  1.5 hours later, he’s sound asleep while I’m sitting here writing about how I wish I were asleep, too.  Fortunately for me, this week is only a three day week.

I had meant to cook something fancy and different this weekend, but I actually ended up pretty busy the whole time.  Friday night, Dan and I decided to have a “date night” and so we went out to eat and ended up at the movie theatre with the idea of seeing whatever it was that looked good when we got there.  I suggested seeing Twilight and he was willing to go (but not happy about it), but when we saw the line of tweens stretched across the entire theatre, we decided to rethink that decision.  We ended up deciding on The Men Who Stare at Goats based entirely on George Clooney’s presence.  Fortunately our decision worked out and we loved it.  Even better, I was surprised to see that Ewan McGregor was in it!  Anything with Ewan McGregor in it is something that I want to see (yum).  On Saturday I went shopping with Jenny, went to work out, and did a little more shopping with Dan after that.  Earlier today, I went to the dog park, donated to Goodwill, bought groceries for our Thanksgiving dinner, looked at some dog kennels for when Dan and I go out of town, and did a lot of cleaning.  I did make a delicious dinner for myself consisting of macaroni and cheese, broccoli, and chicken, but it wasn’t really fancy enough to highlight here.  I did make up the breading for my chicken though, so my chef skills are getting much better.

Thanksgiving for me is going to be spend here in Saint Paul since my family is in Mississippi and Dan’s is in Illinois.  I would have liked to fly down to see my family this holiday, but my flight benefits with Delta don’t kick in until December 2nd.  And so, Dan and I will be staying here and making our own dinner.  Cornish hens will stand in as turkey for us, and with it we will have mashed potatoes, gravy, twice baked potatoes, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie, cinnamon ice cream, and pumpkin bread.  I really do think it will be a lot of fun getting all of this ready for us to eat, and the best part is that if we screw something up, we won’t be embarassing ourselves in front of our entire family!

After the big Thanksgiving dinner that we make for ourselves, we’ll be heading out for black friday shopping.  Our big stop will be at Sears, where we have our eyes on a Samsung TV and a Garmin GPS.  The best part is that Sears opens at 4am while pretty much everything else opens at 5, so we should be able to get some of the really good deals at other stores as well, before they are all sold out.  I’m looking for some new pots and pans, some towels, sheets, and maybe a dog bed.  And honestly, if we find a great couch, I might think about getting that as well.  I’ve always thought of black friday as a shopping day for me, and I’m not ashamed to admit it.  I like to buy my gift recipients gifts based on thought, not on price tag or gadgetry, and plus I love buying things for myself.  It’s one of my favorite pasttimes.

I am feeling a bit more tired, so I’m going to try to get to sleep again.  My alarm clock is set to go off at 5:25am (5 hours from now) so I can get a work out on… but we’ll see if I actually get to the gym.

“my face hurts” “yeah? well it’s killing me!”

November 9, 2009

I bought Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash a few days ago and I was really excited to use it because I have been breaking out a bit lately.  I used it the first time Thursday night and reverted back to my old facewash on Friday morning.  By Friday night, my upper lip was dry and red – like when a little kid licks their upper lip too often and dries it out.  I didn’t think anything of it and used the facewash again before bed.  Then, Saturday morning, I woke up to a dry, burning face with red splotches all over it.  OUCH!

Sunday was the same story as far as the burning face and red splotches goes, and I decided to get smart about this thing and get some benadryl and Eucerin lotion to soothe the pain and dryness.  I probably could have taken a picture of myself in this sad state, but I didn’t want to remember this day ever again, and I certainly didn’t want anyone else to, either.

Today my face has just been very dry and the only remaining burning sensation is around my lips.  I went makeup free because I didn’t want to agitate my face any more than it already is, so I spent a lot of the day straight faced (smiling hurts) and avoiding eye contact.  I kept thinking to myself that I shouldn’t avoid eye contact because at least if the people I am talking to looks at my eyes they can’t look at my splotchy face, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it.  When I’m lacking confidence, eye contact is the first thing to go.  Second is the smile.  Third… hmm…. my voice might get a little higher.

Our pictures will be taken on Wednesday for our badges.  Lets hope that this redness is gone by then 😦
